KUCHING: The effort of Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) in creating
Gawai Dayak Bazaar is one of the inaugural efforts in order to
commercialise products of the Dayak community.
At the same time it is to boost income opportunities as well as to
attract foreign tourists.
This was according to Deputy Chief Minister who is also Rural
Development Minister and Agriculture Modernisation Datuk Patinggi Tan
Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang at his speech during the pre-launch night of
2016 Gawai Dayak Bazaar last Friday.
“The efforts to create the Gawai Dayak Bazaar is a positive step in
creating more involvement of the Dayaks to be directly involved in
business activities.
“The main goal pursued by GADS in creating this Gawai Dayak Bazaar is
one of the State government pursuits to see the unity among the Dayak
community maintained.
“This is to ensure Dayaks will not be divided even if they have
different political views. It is also one of the positive
transformations in the modernisation of agriculture for the local market
in creating more products produced by the Dayak community.
“We have done one of transformations, especially in 1997 where the
government had created Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation
Authority (SALCRA) in developing land for Dayak community.
This was in order to expand the oil palm plantations in an effort to
create jobs, particularly for rural communities and we have paid as much
as RM 772 million to all Native Customary Rights (NCR) land as
compensation in our efforts to develop the land for economic growth,
especially for the Dayak community in rural areas.
What is certain at
this time is SALCRA is one organisations that is so professional in
steering the oil palm industry for Sarawak,” he explained.
“I also hope that GADS can continue this activity so that Gawai Dayak
Bazaar is held every year as one of the compulsory activities required
for Pre-Gawai celebration,” Jabu said.
Commenting on the support for the Gawai Dayak Bazaar activitity
organised by GADS,
Jabu said he wanted to thank the Padawan Municipal
Council (MPP) mainly its chief Lo Khere Chiang who helped in preparing
the site in MJC Batu Kawah to the Dayak traders.
GADS received a donation of RM 30,000 from Jabu as one of his committed
efforts in supporting Dayak community to create more business
opportunities. The donation will be the main source of fund for the
Gawai Dayak Bazaar which to be held from 30 April through to 22 May this
year at Batu Kawa.
Also present in this Pre-Launch night of 2016 Gawai Dayak Bazaar was Lo
Khere Chiang and First Infantry Commander Major General Datuk Stephen
Mundaw.
