Adenan to pick ‘winnable’ candidates for Batu Kitang, Batu Kawa
KUCHING, March 5 — Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem will pick winnable candidates to contest in the state constituencies of Batu Kitang and Batu Kawa in the coming 11th state election.Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said even though the candidates are not from PBB, the number of Bumiputera votes in the two areas could determine the Barisan Nasional (BN)’s victory.
“In Batu Kitang and Batu Kawa, most of the voters are Bumiputera. Our votes will ensure BN’s victory and that’s why when Adenan decided on the candidate, we must support all out,” he said.
Abang Johari, who is also Satok assemblyman, said this when launching the election machinery of the Batu Kitang and Batu Kawa branches in Kampung Sebuak here today.
On February 8, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) announced its intention to contest in 21 state seats in the coming 11th state election, including in Batu Kitang and Batu Kawa.
In the list of winnable candidates, SUPP president Senator Datuk Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian is expected to contest in Batu Kitang or Batu Kawa.
Besides Dr Sim, two other likely candidates are former Batu Kawa assemblyman, Tan Joo Phoi and Padawan Municipal Council chairman, Lo Khere Chiang.
