KUCHING: Chief political secretary to the Chief Minister Abdullah Saidol opines that DAP’s political direction is becoming haywire and confusing.
As such, he called on people who still subscribe to DAP’s political agenda to consider supporting other Chinese political parties so that the Chinese community could be strongly represented in the government.
“We are very much aware of all sorts of frustrations within DAP leadership either at national or state level. We predict this sort of things to happen any time and perhaps more to come.
“DAP’s political propaganda always seems to be advocating transparency, accountability and clean democracy but who are they kidding?
“Even their own grassroots leaders everywhere start to admit implicitly the truth about the autocratic and peremptory style of their supreme leadership which is very much dominated by the Lim’s father and son partnership,” he said yesterday when asked to comment on the resignation of four DAP elected representatives from the party on Sunday.
DAP’s Lim Kit Siang has been a prominent opposition leader in Parliament while his son Guan Eng, who is national DAP secretary-general, has been the Chief Minister of Penang since the 2008 general elections.
Abdullah, who is also state Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman, pointed out: “DAP’s atrocious and transgressive political campaigns are becoming unacceptable even by their own Chinese supporters, many of whom still believe and want to live harmoniously amongst our multi-racial society.”
Meanwhile, SUPP assistant publicity and information secretary Lo Khere Chiang said the resignations of the four DAP elected representatives “proves that DAP grassroots leaders are not happy about Lim Kit Siang flirting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.”
“Even in Sarawak, we feel the same. For some time, many DAP leaders have been unhappy with Kit Siang and Guan Eng and it now appears to have reached the final straw for many people,” he said in a statement.
Lo, also Batu Kitang assemblyman, said he believed there were many more in DAP who felt the same way but for the sake of the party “they do not wish to wash dirty linens in public.”
He claimed that young people “are especially disappointed with such unethical alliance between Dr Mahathir and Kit Siang.”
“We always hear this saying that there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics but I strongly believe that we still need to maintain a certain degree of integrity and allegiance to our voters who believe in us.”
Lo said Sarawakians ought to always remember the 53 people-centric policies implemented by the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, the state’s fifth chief minister.
“Don’t ever let the problems and issues in Peninsular Malaysia infect the hearts and minds of Sarawakians. Be united, remember Tok Nan (Adenan) and his dream for a harmonious and prosperous Sarawak for all Sarawakians.”
