KUCHING: The Third Mile Hawkers Association has been duly registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to facilitate improvement at the Sungai Maong Wet Market at Mile 3 here.

Its launch was symbolically marked by the handing-over of registration certificate to association president Ho Yian Choon at the wet market yesterday, which Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, officiated.

Present at the launch as witnesses were councillors Amy Tnay and Wilfred Yap.

Lo said MPP has approved RM150,000 for the upgrading works on Sungai Maong Wet Market this year.

“The establishment of Third Mile Hawkers Association will provide a more organised and effective way in using the fund to improve the business environment, hygiene and safety measures while providing a safer and more comfortable hawker centre to the public,” said Lo.

He called on all traders at the wet market to join the association.

Only through organised and planned management, could traders improve their environment and safety at the place, he reminded.

Lo hoped that the association will be able to seek more benefits for it members through strength of unity and co-ordination of traders within the wet market.
