Municipal Council Chairman and Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Ir. Lo Khere
Chiang yesterday attended the “Miring Ampun” ceremony organised by the Heritage
Society of Rajah Charles Brooke Memorial (RCBM) Hospital at the hospital at
Jalan Puncak Borneo.
According to
a spokesman, the purpose of the “Miring Ampun” ceremony, held at Rumah
Kenyalang at the hospital, was to seek pardon from “Petara” (gods) and spirits
for having abandoned the annual ritual for the past decade.
RCBM
Hospital wants to hold the “Miring” ceremony annually from now on.
Speaking at
the event, Lo said: “We are calling for the historical section of RCBM Hospital
to be gazetted as a heritage site and I foresee that this “Miring” ritual will
play an predominant part in achieving the goal.”
Also present
was the Council for Native Customs and Traditions’ Assistant Research Officer,
Jimbun Tawai.
