Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the traffic jam-prone locations identified were Mile 10 Kuching-Serian Road traffic light intersection; Mile 6 Penrissen Road traffic light intersection; Jalan Stapok to Jalan Ketitir traffic light intersection; and Taman Desa Wira traffic light intersection.
“To overcome the daily congestion, we are taking the drastic measure of stationing police personnel at these hot spots to facilitate the flow of traffic during peak hours,” he told reporters during a monthly parade held at Padawan district police headquarters yesterday.
Aidil said his men will be stationed at the identified locations from 6am to 9am, and again from 4pm to 7pm.
“We have extended each shift from two hours previously, to three hours now,” he added.
Aidil also announced the setting-up of a four-man ‘Traffic Jam Squad’, which will be deployed immediately to areas within its jurisdiction where a traffic congestion is reported to have occurred.
Traffic-related complaints can be channelled directly to Padawan police hotline at 082-862233.
Earlier in his speech to his men during the parade, Aidil called on them to continue portraying high integrity and to avoid abusing their power.
“You must stay away from corruption, drugs, and gambling to maintain the good name of the force.”
Also present yesterday were deputy district police chief DSP Merbin Lisa and senior police officers.
