First Meeting of the Second Session of the 18th Sarawak DUN 2017 - 11 May 2017

1. Since the Sarawak government has allocated RM100 million state funds for flood mitigation works, including the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) area - i call on the Drainage and Irrigation Department to start work as soon as possible. Also, kampung families who frequently subjected to flash floods deserve attention and help, such as those along Jalan Landeh.

2. The interruption of water supply in Kuching due to power failure alone is an unacceptable reason! the supply of water cannot rely solely on the availability of power supply to water pumps, such as having more elevated water storage tanks and reservoirs,

3. i urge the Sarawak Housing Development Commission to look into the issue of low cost flat owners who did not get their strata titles, even after having lived there for 20 years. This includes those affected in Jalan Matang and Taman Flora Indah in Arang Road.

4. Sarawak should take over the authority of overseeing advertising billboards, so that the regulation, planning and devision of suitable sites can be done locally and more effectively. The Sarawak government currently has little authority over these billboards, other than collection of rentals by councils.

5. The Padawan Raft Safari - jointly organised by the MPP and Ministry of Tourism - is a popular local event that attracts around 2,000 annual visitors worldwide. Thus, i request the JKR to widen the current narrow roads, and to provide proper parking areas so as to ensure safety and convenience.

6. we need to ease traffic congestions now. For situation at the route from the Old Airport road leading to the Kuching International Airport; and increasingly at 7th Mile, where many new developments are now sprouting - i suggest building flyovers now before they become. unmanageable.

7. Even if the State Planning Authority des not have the authority to legalise gated-and-guarded housing estates, the proactive steps by local communities to curb crimes should be applauded. Also, the PDRM must ensure the ease of lodging police reports for cases of any nature, at any station. The victims must not be made to run around seeking the right station!

8. To ensure better quality management of the area under MPP and solving the manpower shortage of enforecement offices, the MPP has received approval from the government to increase an additional of 15 enforcement offices.

9. The 92 year old Rajah Charles Brooke Memorial Hospital complex - the only leprosarium in Borneo - should be gazetted as a heritage site. Moreover, it contains many rare artefacts. it will included as part of the "Padawan Heritage Trail", an MPP initiative to feature local culture and history to promote local tourism.
