KUCHING: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak will provide technical expertise to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) when required.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said IEM Sarawak’s free advice is part of its corporate social responsibility.

“To build our infrastructure and facilities, we need engineers to solve technical problems or find solutions.

“What you will be doing for us is a noble thing, a step to move forward and we are very proud to have you as our partner in the development of Padawan and the state as a whole,” he said at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between MPP and IEM yesterday.

The Batu Kitang assemblyman said MPP looked forward to advice from IEM Sarawak for its engineering staff.

“I’m sure we all can work together to make Padawan a better place to live in,” he said.
IEM Sarawak chairman Vincent Tan said IEM decided to provide technical expertise to MPP to ensure its engineers remain relevant.

“We want to share our knowledge in all 15 disciplines in engineering.

“I believe by sharing our knowledge as engineers, we will make our engineer members relevant.
“For us, we just want to assist. Not more than that. Our purpose is strictly knowledge sharing,” he said.

Lo and Tan represented MPP and IEM Sarawak respectively for the signing, while MPP acting secretary Elizabeth Lo and IEM Sarawak honorary secretary Tan Joo Kok signed as witnesses.
