Lo Khere Chiang visits mentally disabled man
KUCHING:* Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, Lo Khere Chiang is happy to see that members of the community are doing their part in helping each other. It is thanks to the Everbright Estate Crime Watch Group that Lo found out about Yeo Bun Hing, a 57-year-old man who is living alone with mental illness.
“The group has not only watched out for each other’s safety but also each other’s welfare and this is something worth encouraging,” Lo told reporters here on Wednesday.
He explained that Yeo, who had been living alone since his mother passed away, was receiving help from neighbours.
“We have asked a welfare officer to join us as we visit him so that the Welfare Department can help him,” Lo said. It is said that Yeo has been mentally ill due to a failed relationship.
Yeo is receiving a monthly assistance of RM200 from the OKU Samariang Centre and although he has been registered as a disabled person, he has lost his documents.
Occasionally, Yeo’s brother-in-law, Chai Vui Shin, will come down from Bau to check on him and help him with anything that he needs.
Rosliza Ahmad, a representative from the Welfare Department, said that suggestions have been made to have an officer check on Yeo regularly.
