Its chairman Lo Khere Chiang said such effort was made following the breakout of rabies cases in Serian District which claimed young lives from Kpg Paun Sungai Rimu.
“Although the effort to catch stray dogs in nothing new for MPP, we are intensifying the effort as people are complaining about the presence of stray dogs in the city following the rabies incident on Serian District,” Lo who is Batu Kitang assemblyman said when contacted on Thursday.
He said some of the stray dogs caught would be sent to Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), while others were released ‘up country’ after being vaccinated.
SSPCA is charging a steep fee of RM160 for each dog delivered to it.
Lo hoped people would be more responsible and caring towards their pets and neuter them to prevent them reproducing.
