MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the council had spent RM2.1 million over the last five years to upgrade the facilities, which included concrete walkways, public toilets, carparks and a tourist information centre.
“The council has been putting up infrastructure facilities along Sungai Semadang to facilitate tourism-related activities in the area. All these facilities will also enhance the living standard of our people,” he told a press conference here before handing over the keys and letters to the village heads.
Lo said the facilities at the seven villages – Annah Rais, Bengoh, Temurang, Danu, Giam Baru, Giam Lama and Git – were upgraded following requests from the local community.
“We do it for the locals and now we are handing it over to the local community so that they will take good care of it.
“Those facilities are meant for them to make money through tourism. Handing those facilities over to them is so that they will have a sense of belonging and be keen to take care of it all,” he added.
He said MPP welcomed feedback from the ground so that it could work on further improvement for the betterment of all.
“We want to let the people know that we have upgraded the facilities along Sungai Semadang. And the council would appreciate feedback from the users so that we can further improve it,” added Lo.
He said the concrete walkways and ramps of all seven villages had been upgraded.
Apart from that, Kampung Temurang also has a public toilet, carpark, tourist information centre and Belian walkway to the Rafflesia site.
The other two villages that have been equipped with public toilets and carparks are Kampung Danu and Kampung Git.
Among those present were MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim and Kampung Bengoh chief Keren Geno.
