Organisers expect to see more participation with a total of RM20,000 in cash prizes to be won.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the annual event which has been held for more than 10 years is part of the state tourism calendar and has been successful with support from the public.
“The council listens to the feedback from the people (on the event) and are continuously improving the event. This year it will be more challenging and interesting because we see this event as important to promote eco-tourism and the community in Padawan in terms of socio-economic development,” Lo told a press conference at the unveiling of the event yesterday.
Also present were MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, organising chairman Cr Bronnie Marshall and other senior MPP staff to receive sponsorship from Magnum for the event.
According to Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, nature enthusiasts look forward to the event and give their support like in previous years.
He thanked Magnum, other sponsors and the public for their continuous support.
Meanwhile, Bronnie said the event is to cultivate an interest in nature, adventure, sports and a healthy lifestyle among the public, while at the same time promote Padawan as a destination for eco-adventure and tourism.
It is also to encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote eco-tourism in the state, and give the opportunity for nature lovers and adventurous individual to get closer to nature and experience the environmental and adventure tourism aspect of Padawan, including Borneo Highlands Resort.
He expects more participants for this year’s event compared to last year which had about 400 participants.
“This year, we are expecting more participants in view of the popularity of the event…we hope to double the participation compared to the number of participants last year,” he said.
