KUCHING: The 2nd Padawan International 4×4 Challenge that will be held at the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme from today to Monday (July 23) will be more challenging and offers a bigger purse for the winners.
Currently, 40 teams have registered for the event organised by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) in collaboration with Staytuned Motosports Club and supported by the state government.
“We are expecting 60 teams comprising 120 participants from Sarawak, Indonesia, Brunei and other countries to take up the challenge this year,” said organising chairman cum MPP deputy chairman Dato Ahmad Ibrahim in a press conference at a local hotel yesterday.
According to Ahmad, the competition is more challenging this year as more difficult obstacles have been designed at the new track at the resettlement scheme.
“The obstacles were ordinary in the 1st edition of the challenge organised in 2015. Some of the participants have inspected the track and the obstacles and are very happy with the settings.
“We are offering a total of more than RM50,000 in prize money, with the champions of the Group A getting RM10,000, Group B RM8,000 and Group C RM3,000,” he added.
Group A is for Open Class, fully modified 4×4 vehicles, Group B for semi-modified 4×4 vehicles while Group C is for Standard Production Car. Each team with a minimum of two drivers have to overcome the obstacles in 10 stages and the winner of each stage shall receive a trophy.
This event is organised together with the Bengoh Cultural Carnival, with other activities such as the Padawan Idol, Miss Culture Bengoh, exhibition, food bazaar, Sukan Rakyat, Gong and Karaoke competitions.
