KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang applauded the decision of the state government to absorb the goods and services tax (GST) for all local councils.
When contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday, Lo said it was a double joy for the people of Sarawak as the news came only days after tolls on two of the state’s bridges were abolished.
“A big pat on the back and a big thank you to our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for his dedication to serve and lighten the burden of each Sarawakian,” said Lo who was overwhelmed by the announcement by Adenan in Sibu.
He added since becoming chief minister, Adenan clearly showed grit in terms of improving the people’s livelihood.
He cited Adenan’s other effective policies included the state government’s war against corruption and illegal timber which he said would enable the state to save much money and resources which could be turned into development funds to improve the state’s infrastructure and human capital.
“At one time, I also suggested to him to raise the assessment rates under MPP. This proposal was however shot down at a whim by him (Adenan) who said that the people’s burden should not be made any heavier,” he added.
