MPP makes it a point to get closer to people
KUCHING:
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has carried out various community
programmes through its Residential Councillorship System (RCS)
initiative.
Its
chairman Lo Khere Chiang said that through the RCS initiative they had
managed to hold programmes like gotong-royong and sports.
He said it involved all the 32 councillors who each had specific area to look after.
Lo added that the council had made it a point this year to get closer to the people by organising more community programmes.
“The RCS is meant to foster better understanding between the people and the government and its many agencies,” he said when speaking at council’s 18th anniversary celebration at its premises in Kota Padawan near here yesterday.
According to Lo, the council had spent RM56,629 as of June this year, to carry out the various community programmes under the RCS initiative.
He also said that every year, the council organised several events such as Regatta Sejijak Challenge, Padawan foodfair, funfair and tradefair, BHR Nature Challenge, Padawan Raft Safari, Padawan Commemoration Day and Talaga Air Nature Challenge. All were held in conjunction with the annual Padawan Fest.
Lo added that for the council to carry out its programme successfully, it needed continuous teamwork and cooperation between the staff, councillors and the management staff.
“We should all look at our similarities to serve the people because for an organisation to function effectively, teamwork and co-operation are important.”
He added that any differences, personal interest and political ideology should be set aside to give better service to the people.
Deputy chairman who is also the organising chairman Dr Zaiedi Suhaili and acting secretary Elizabeth Loh were among those present at the function.
