Road block to prevent rabies spread

KUCHING: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) have directed National Security Council to have a dialogue with their Indonesian counterpart to have a collaborative effort at Malaysia and Indonesia Border.
Chairman of SDMC and Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the co-operation is vital in our effort to jointly managed the rabies outbreak situation at the border.
Speaking to reporters after chairing SDMC, Uggah stressed that the immune belt along the Malaysia – Indonesia border will be closely monitored with help from the Army and General Operation Force (GOF).
He said the local authority have been directed to enforce the bylaws, particularly on the licensing and advised pet owners to keep their dogs indoor.
Uggah also revealed that roadblock will be erected to prevent people from moving dogs from rabies infected areas starting from October 6.
“We would like the public to know that it is an offence to move dog from rabies infected area and the penalty is a fine of RM5,000,” he said.
