Dengue fever cases up in rural areas: Lo Khere Chiang
KUCHING: Dengue fever cases have been
escalating in the rural areas in the past two months, said chairman of Padawan
Municipal Council, Lo Khere Chiang.
He said his council had to be precise in
its fogging activities.
“We have to kill the mosquitoes carrying
the dengue virus. Should they survive the fogging, we need stronger chemicals in our next fogging.
“These chemicals are not healthy for humans
either. Let’s bear in mind that dengue mosquitoes only breed in clean water.
Murky water will not breed dengue mosquitoes. So it requires everyone’s effort
to empty containers and plants that can harbour clean water,” he added.
Lo added that dengue mosquitoes would only
carry dengue virus after biting dengue carriers.
“The other fact to be aware of is that dengue mosquitoes have been known to
fly over a 3km radius. It is therefore pertinent that the fight against dengue
requires the combined efforts of the community with the Medical Department and
the council,” he said.
