Chinese voters having second thoughts about voting DAP — Lo Khere Chiang
KUCHING: SUPP is confident of wresting Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawa seats from the DAP in the upcoming state election.
According to SUPP’s potential candidate Lo Khere Chiang, both seats comprise mostly urban Chinese voters whom he believed were having second thoughts about voting for a peninsula-based opposition party.
The party is also confident of winning the new Batu Kitang state seat.
“Urban voters are now thinking what is the point of voting for DAP, and what they get from it,” Lo told reporters after witnessing a Chinese New Year eve lion dance performance at their party headquarters yesterday.
He called upon urban voters, especially the Chinese, to be practical in choosing the party that can best serve the interest of Sarawak and her people.
A peninsula- based party like DAP, he said, would need to get instructions from its headquarters over in the peninsula, which does not augur well for the welfare of Sarawakians.
“We have to look after ourselves, not expect somebody else to look after us or Peninsular Malaysia to look after Sarawak,” he commented.
Ideally, the peninsula will only work with Sarawak if the state is politically and economically strong.
“That is why for this upcoming state election, it will be all about Sarawak and we have to give our full support to our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem who had emphasised to the federal government that Sarawak is an equal partner in the formation of the nation,” he added.
Sarawakians, he said, should give their mandate to the chief minister to fight for them as that is what SUPP is all about.
On another note, he said problems and issues happening in the peninsula should not influence the Sarawakian vote.
“We cannot keep thinking about the problems of the peninsula and follow their problems.
“We should get out of that and for that Sarawak must be economically and politically strong,” he added.
He said the SUPP election machinery was ready and most of the candidates had an inkling as to where they would be contesting although the announcement of the candidates could only be made by party president (Senator Datuk Prof Sim Kui Hian).
