KUCHING: The rebuilding committee of SJK Chung Hua Stapok needs over RM1 million to erect a new four-storey building to house its computer rooms, rooms for dental care and an auditorium.

Its chairman Sin Yian Chai said the ground-breaking ceremony for the new building, identified as block B would be held in two months’ time.

“The construction of block B is expected to commence in mid March. Fundraising is our concern now, and I hope people from all walks of life will chip in,” he told a news conference at the school in Batu Kawa here yesterday.

The press conference was also to inform its donors and members of the public on its amended design. According to architect Andy Ngu, the initial design for block B has six classrooms.

“We look forward to finalising the design before the celebration of the Lunar New Year and the final design will be handed over to the contractor as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the construction of block C, which will equip the school with nine classrooms and an administrative hall, is expected to be completed ahead of schedule.

“Block C, which is also a four-storey building, is scheduled for completion in June. The contractor’s diligence has accelerated the works,” Sin said.

Meanwhile, Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also project adviser, said he was pleased to note that the construction works at the school had gone very well.
“The project is on the right track under the leadership of Sin. Donors can be rest assured that the project will be completed as planned.”

Lo pledged to help raise funds by encouraging the community to contribute to the project.
“While I believe that block B will be implemented as scheduled, I am also confident the RM10 million project will materialise.”

The entire development project undertaken by the committee comes in three phases. The last phase will be block D comprising a carpark and a school hall. The committee did not disclose the cost for the last phase.

Block C costing RM2 million is the first phase and block B the second phase.
