Tanyuh passes away at 69





KUCHING: Former State Assemblyman for Bengoh, Datuk William Tanyuh anak Nub (pic), left a deep impression on his comrades who spoke of his deep loyalty to the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).Tanyuh aged 69 passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on Monday evening, leaving behind his wife, Datin Jennifer Alice Chee Moinie and four children, daughter Patricia and sons, Andrew, Peter and Simon.He was a member of the “Tebiya” tribe of the Bidayuh community.

Jennifer who said her husband was her soulmate, said he was in the hospital for only a day and passed away at 7.50 pm. His wake is being held at Tanyuh’s house at Jalan Urat Mata, Tabuan Jaya near here. Jennifer added that the funeral service will be held at St Thomas’s Cathedral at 10.00am on Thursday and burial thereafter. Tanyuh won a by-election in 1982. In the 1991 State Election, he contested against Datuk Wilfred Nissom of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) and won.He again won in the 1996 state election against Datuk Dr Jerip Susil who stood as an independent candidate.

 President of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said Tanyuh was a true gentleman and a loyal party member. He added that his death was a big loss to SUPP in particular and Sarawakians in general as Tanyuh had served the party unselfishly with dedication and passion.SUPP Secretary-General, Dato’ Sebastian Ting who is a personal friend to the family said he was sad of the passing of such a good man.

“Through thick and thin, Tanyuh had stood by SUPP. He had contributed a lot with integrity and principle,” said Ting.Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council, Lo Khere Chiang said Tayud was a councillor for Kuching Rural District Council (KRDC) in 1988 and Lo had worked with Tanyuh  as Lo was an engineer with the council then.He added that Tanyuh was fiercely loyal to SUPP and his spirit and love for the party should be emulated by the party’s younger generation.“Tanyuh’s passing should serve as a reminder to all members to stay united with the party,” Lo said.
