Batu Kitang residents seeking compensation
Their letter of demand was handed over to SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian when a delegation from the party visited the village yesterday.
Mohd Ismail Lolot represented the villagers to present the letter.
Copies would also be sent to State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Kuching District’s Office.
According to Ismail, their area was flooded on two occasions with the first hitting them in January, and the second in March.
“Our concern here is the second flooding because it was due to the failure of KWB staff to control the weir following a downpour at that time. This was admitted by the board after we queried them,” he said.
Meanwhile, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap said the party would look into the matter and help pass the letter of claims on behalf of the villagers.
“We will do the best we can to see what we can do to help them (villagers),” he said.
He said the party would also help those who had not received the government compassionate aid for flood victims.
