RM8 Million Spent On Upgrading Works – MPP
Lo Khere Chiang |
KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has spent RM8 million on
upgrading roads, drainage and bridges within its jurisdiction up to July
this year.
Of the figure, RM3.6 million was spent in the Batu Kawa constituency, said chairman Lo Khere Chiang.
He added the council looked forward to forking out another RM8 million for upgrading of roads, drainage and bridges in Padawan areas before the end of this year.
“MPP has done a lot of projects for the people of Padawan. We have completed many projects and spent RM8 million thus far this year. Just Batu Kawa alone, we have spent RM3.6 million.
“This is only the middle of the year, and we are going to try our best to carry out as many projects as possible within MPP. Having said that, as the chairman of MPP, I have been very fair in my distribution of projects and funds as we focus not only in urban areas but also in rural areas,” he told a news conference at a coffee shop in Batu Kawa Old Bazaar here yesterday.
Lo said the rural areas included Desa Wira, Tematu, Haji Baki, Batu Kitang Lama, Batu Kitang Baru, Sinar Budi, Landeh and RPR Batu Kawa.
“I know there is still a lot to do. And the RM8 million we have spent so far did not include lightings. We are aware that many areas are in need of lightings, but we currently lack funds for this.”
To a question, he said MPP had to issue a service order to Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to ‘energise the lightings’ at Jalan Matang here.
He added that there might be some technical issues which had delayed the service. But he believed the lights there would be on in a couple of weeks.
“I believe it will be addressed soon. I hope the people will be more patient and wait for another few more months. It took a while for Jalan Batu Kawa to have lightings.”
Lo thanked all the 32 councillors and council staff for their efforts and hard work to make several development projects a success.
He also extended appreciation to local residents who provided feedback to MPP so that more improvement works could be registered in the various areas.
“I alone cannot do much. I will continue to need co-operation from all to solve various issues. I know I am putting a lot of pressure on my staff, but we are all trying to be efficient.
“Come election time, I hope the people will not forget to support Barisan Nasional.”
Some 400,000 people reside in areas under MPP while there are 50,000 residents in Batu Kawa alone.
