Home visit to welfare case

Today we visited an unfortunate family residing in Kpg Lidah Tanah. When I heard of their situation just last night, immediately I knew I have to come by today to understand their struggling time.

Mr Busman Bin Mosili who is only 40 years of age, is in a coma since 3 months ago. He was initially diagnosed with dengue and after further hospital test, he was found to have a rare disease due to contact with rat urine. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that is most commonly spread by contact with rat urine. The bacterial infection has spread and affected Mr Busman's lungs as well and he is in a coma till today, his case has become life-threatening.

With the heavy burden of 3 children under the care of his Wife Madam Zalina Binti Pon, she is in a really tough situation. Mr Busman was the sole breadwinner all along before the unfortunate happened. They have 3 children aged 10 years old, 4 years old and their youngest daughter at 18 months is suffering from heart problems, she is diagnosed with VSD.

Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) is a hole in the part of the septum that separates the ventricles. (The ventricles are the lower chambers of the heart.) Baby Qhaira have to constantly see a Paediatric Cardiologist and be on long term medication.

With today's visit, I'm very appreciative that Tabung Baitumal Sarawak and Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat came along with me to help this family. Baitumal will be assisting with Rm700 monthly and Kebajikan will be helping with Rm300 monthly. I personally gave a cheque of Rm1000 to help Mdm Zalina cope by for now.

Tabung Baitumal's welfare help is from the funding of ZAKAT which is the Muslim community contribution. I'm very grateful for the welfare help towards this family, I hope that all communities will stand together and emulate the kindness and love towards the less fortunate.

There is such a kind soul, Madam Hasanah Binti Said (44yrs) of Kpg Lidah Tanah who adopted this family and became their guardian. She herself is filled at hands with her own family and 4 grandchildren, she is not rich, only making Kuih to sell and barely surviving but she was determined to help. Showing pure, unconditional love, it shines through. She placed her own demands and agendas aside and completely open herself to help this family in dire circumstances. I hope many more in our society will respond to help, just like this case, without reserve, demand, or judgment.

We Sarawakians are kind hearted and peace loving, witnessing from this case, I see the kindness and love. It's the loving and harmonious society which we are in that can help the less fortunate in our communities.

Once again I would like to Thank Encik Shukri B Samor & Encik Samdan B Ahmad of Tabung Baitumal Sarawak, and Miss Herryken Anak Rayeh of Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat.

Joining me today for the visit are
KK Hamzah Bin Bujang of Kpg Lidah Tanah. My fellow councillors, Cr. Yeo Eng Kuang and Cr. Sahferi Tambi.
