KUCHING : Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Lo Khere
Chiang said education is important for the future and well being of everyone.
Lo said this at an award presentation ceremony to outstanding students at Sri
Maha Mariamman Temple here, yesterday when he represented Minister of Local
Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is also SUPP president.
He added that from a personal perspective
he has seen clearly that no one was ever too old to learn and each day, he is
eagerly learning more about all that are important to our state. “We as
parents, teachers, community leaders know just how important education is to
everyone in Kuching, the state and also to the global community.
“Education teaches forbearance, respect and
tolerance which contribute significantly to the well being of everyone in the
state and country.
“Education also provides unique social and
cultural benefits that are not so easily measured and yet they are every bit
important,” Lo said.
He added that regardless of one’s race or
religion education will contribute to the ongoing development of our unique
multiculturalism, an important aspect of our national and in particular, our
state’s identity.
“We bring so much to each other from our different
races and cul tures. And s tudent s here contribute so much to the learning of
their peers as well. Education is not just studying for good academic results.
Students from all races learn of the need to respect and love one another and
to become a part of our community,” he said.
