KUCHING: SJK (C) Chung Hua Stapok’s proposed four-storey block that will house nine classrooms and an office will be ready for use when the new school term starts in January next year.
Padawan Municpal Council (PMC) chairman Lo Khere Chiang visited the school in Batu Kawa yesterday to see the progress of the project, which started in October last year.
He thanked members of the public for chipping in RM1.4 million towards its construction.
“We must not rely on the government all the time to give us funds. We should contribute in whatever ways and means possible so that our children and teachers have a conducive environment to study and teach,” he told reporters covering his visit.
Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, said two more blocks—comprising classrooms and a hall—would be built in the school, and the whole project was estimated to cost more than RM10 million and be completed by 2018.
Minister of Local Government and Batu Kawah assemblyman Prof Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian would help to lobby for more funds to materialise this initiative.
Meanwhile, headmaster Jong Loo Poh said he was grateful to all those who had contributed to the building fund. He also thanked SJK (C) Chung Hua Stapok’s rebuilding committee chairperson Sim Yiang Chai for taking an active part in the project.
On the school, Jong said it was set up in 1946. It currently has 27 teachers and 384 pupils.
