Petronas case of employment should be fair to Sarawak

State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, Lo Khere Chiang hit out at a Unimas professor who blasted the Chief Minister for interfering in Petronas policy insisting that the appointment of staffs should be on merits. The professor was interviewed by BFM Radio

Lo said it was indeed wrong of the professor for making such a statement without understanding the whole issue.

“If the professor wants to talk on merits, then they should start with the Petronas nationwide instead of focusing on Sarawak only. Our Chief Minister has been doing his best to work out what is best and fair for Sarawakians,” he said.

Pointing it out that the professor did not understand the sentiment of Sarawakians, Lo said not many leaders were concern about Sarawak in the past.

Petronas had retrenched a number of Sarawakians a few months back on the ground of restructuring the company but instead hired West Malaysians to fill the positions. The move annoyed Sarawakians and the Chief Minister then ordered that working permits should not be given to this group of people.

There was subsequently a negotiation between Petronas  and Sarawak government which ended  in a win-win situation for both parties.

Lo added that if the Chief Minister has not put his foot down for his own people, the whole thing would have been swept under the carpet.
