KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP)
had sternly issued a stop work order at Taman Hong Hong, Jalan Burung Lilin
following a complaint of culvert and building waste materials by the
contractors there and further action would be taken if the unwanted items were
not removed.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public
Complaints Bureau (SPCB) chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by the
residents who were worried of flash floods and breeding of mosquitoes in the
area if the material wastes were not disposed off promptly.
Yap then brought up the matter to the
attention of the MPP and together with officers from MPP’s Enforcement and
Engineering Department went to inspect and assess the situation and also to see
what could be done to quickly resolve the problem.
During the meeting at the site of the
construction of the illegal access, officers from the Enforcement Department of
MPP communicated the complaints of the residents of Taman Hong Hong by issuing
a stop work order under Section 8A (4) Buildings Ordinance, 1994 and a further
notice to restore the monsoon drain to its original state within fourteen (14)
days under Section 136 (1)(a) of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996.
The officers from MPP Enforcement
Department also assured that they will continue to monitor the situation and if
the Stop Work Order is not complied and restoration works are not done
properly, the appropriate legal action will be taken by MPP.
Yap hoped that the public will also not
irresponsibly dump left over construction materials into the drains to make a
bridge to access their land as it will disrupt water flow when it rains causing
flash flooding.
