Students of SK Siburan Batu awarded by Trienekens

KUCHING: Winners of the Trienekens’ Inter-Class Most Collected Recyclables Competition from SK Siburan Batu, received their prizes recently.

Representing Trienekens at the prize presentation ceremony held at the school was its Department Manager of KIWMP Maintenance Christo Michael, accompanied by SK Siburan Batu Senior Assistant (Administration) Sepri @ Sapri Anis, Senior Assistant (Students’ Affairs), Ilbaes Edem, Senior Assistant (Co-curriculum) Gershom Mudem and Coordinating Teacher Laura Singi.
  
The competition was a part of an educational pilot project on solid waste segregation at the school organised jointly by Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and SK Siburan Batu.

The recycling competition was open to all students comprising of Level One and Two. The results were based on the accumulated collection carried out by the company on a scheduled frequency.

Under the Level One category, Year One Bestari students succeeded in collecting 22.8kg of recyclable wastes while Year Four Bestari students emerged as the top winner under the Level Two category with the collection of 104.90kg.

In addition to the recycling competition, the students also took part in other environment-themed educational activities such as awareness talks, colouring competition and poster drawing competition.
All contest winners took home some exciting prizes.

“The joint programme was introduced by MPP and Trienekens with the objectives to introduce the 5R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink and Repair) concept and inculcate the habit and practice of separating solid waste at source amongst primary school students,” said Trienekens’ General Manager for Business Development, Elvin Wee.

“Although we started only in October this year, SK Siburan Batu students have shown great initiatives and enthusiasm in the awareness programme and we look forward to working with the school again next year. Congratulations to all teachers and students,” said Wee.
