Chin said he is happy that the longstanding issue is at last over and the party leadership had done a lot of soul searching on it. He said it is the best news he has received for a long time.

Following the deregistration letters sent to Piasau and Bekenu branches on January 6 this year, they were ordered to reply within 30 days. The Ministry of Home Affairs subsequently accepted the explanation through three faxed letters, one from the Registrar of Society and two from the Home Ministry to the SUPP headquarters this afternoon.

The two branches were deregistered due to complaints made against the party for irregularities during the branches’ election in 2011.

The Triennial delegates conference was then boycotted by Sibu SUPP Chairman, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who complained that there were irregularities. The party had since then spilt into two factions.

The letter from ROS to SUPP stated that all the explanations given were accepted.

Thus the ROS has agreed not to take any action to de-register the party under Section 13(1)(c)(iv) of the ROS 1966.

Meanwhile, both Piasau and Bekenu were suspended on January 7 and appeal letters against the deregistered were forwarded to ROS. The ROS letters stated that they accepted the explanation under Section 18 of ROS 1966.

The branches will contact the Sarawak ROS for further action.

Chin said the TDC will go on as planned and they will invite the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. Chin also thanked the Chief Minister and Prime Minister for their support.
