Chai was ferrying his daughter home from work late one evening when he was killed in a horrible bike accident. His daughter succumbed to injuries two days later.
Padawan Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang who was touched by the despairing family, went to see them in their squatter house in Sg. Tengah.
Chai had eight children. The eldest son aged 17, died in a road accident three years ago. The eldest daughter aged 18, has left school and is working in a bakery. The other four are schooling and the youngest is only a year old.
Chai’s wife, Bong Nyet Lin, 47 was unable to fend for herself and Lo said the Welfare department has been informed.
Yesterday, a Welfare assistant arrived at the house to give RM300 cash and food stuff for the family.
Lo said he hoped that the Welfare department would be giving the family RM450 monthly to help them out starting next month.
Chai’s elderly parents, father Chai Ah Pu aged 70 and his mother, Liew Chaw Moi aged 66, were both retired farmers.
Chaw Moi also appealed to Lo to help for them to apply for electricity.
Yesterday, SUPP Woman’s chief, Tnay Li Ping arrived at the house bringing food stuff to the family.
Tnay who initiated the donation from members of the public after being told of Chai’s family plight, said so far she has collected RM40,000 for the family through the kindness of associations and individual donations.
