MPP plans to conduct repair works on 24 houses

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is looking at repairing 24 houses belonging to poor families within its jurisdiction next year.
According to its chairman Lo Khere Chiang, the houses will be repaired under the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme with the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, he also revealed that each house would be given a maximum allocation of RM15,000 to be used entirely for repair of the roof, walls and ceiling.
Those who are considered poor and want their houses repaired must, however, meet certain criteria before they are accepted into the programme.
Among the criteria are that the applicant confirm their status by registering with national poverty data bank eKasih via the local district office, live in an area with a local government, having a house that is damaged or old and own a house or land.
“We hope that the request to repair the 24 houses next year would be approved.
This project is meant for the poor people who registered their names with eKasih,” Lo added when officiating a ceremony at Taman Desa Wira, Batu Kawa here.
Meanwhile, three families were presented with keys to their newly renovated houses during the ceremony.
Lo said the three families had their houses repaired under the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme.
He also revealed that MPP have managed to repair 23 houses this year and the allocation used to implement the project this year is RM344,493.04.
Those who want to apply to join the Poverty Eradication Programme can get their forms from MPP and submit these forms to the council as well.
