KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will not compromise on contractors who carry out sloppy jobs.
Its chairman Lo Khere Chiang said those awarded contracts within MPP’s juridiction must carry out their jobs satisfactorily or risk being terminated.
“This year, we (MPP) have terminated two contractors and we are curtailing all the bad contractors…and we will not deal with lousy contractors.
“MPP has to be very strict with lousy contractors, whether they are class A or F because at the end of the day, we want the projects be delivered properly,” he told reporters after the MPP full council meeting yesterday.
He asserted that contractors awarded with MPP contracts will have to provide references from their previous projects.
“MPP wants a good team with the contractors … any bad contractors better forget about getting contracts from MPP,” he warned, adding “even this afternoon, we will review three different contractors for three contracts to ensure that they do a good job.”
However, Lo, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman, added that he was glad MPP was able to have a “good team” of contractors who are entrusted to carry out MPP projects.
He also said that the council had completed 113 of the 219 projects, worth RM51 million, this year.
“MPP has completed 113 of the total 219 projects this year and for the rest of the projects, they are ongoing,” he said.
He pointed out that the total worth of projects in MPP for this year was the biggest over the past 10 years.
On street lightings, Lo said 324 out of 352 points worth RM1 million had been installed this year.
