KUCHING: Entries to the 8th edition of the Borneo Highlands Nature Challenge 2015 to be held on 23 October from Kpg Annah Rais to Borneo Highlands Resort are now open.

The event organiser Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is urging runners, cyclists and outdoors lovers to take part in the event.

According to MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang, the event will provide many challenges to the participants who want to stay healthy and at the same time enjoy nature and win prizes.

“The Borneo Highlands Padawan Nature Challenge 2015 is quite different from other runs as there are levels of difficulty for the experts, amateurs and also for lovers of nature and the environment.

“It also acts as another option for locals to take part in a sporting activity where they can enjoy an outing with beautiful natural greenery,” Lo said at a press conference on the event in MPP office at Kota Padawan near here yesterday.

Lo added that the challenges will give nature lovers and adventurous individuals to be close to Mother Nature and to experience the environmental and adventure tourism aspects of Padawan.

Lo also hoped that the event would attract more participants from other states in the country and foreign countries.

The event has five categories namely MPP Chairman Challenge Trophy (Open), Penrissen Summit Trekking Challenge (Open), Batu Panggah Trekking Challenge (Open), Borneo Highlands Run for men and women.

For more information on the event, those interested may visit MPP facebook page at www.facebook.com/naturechallenge or contact MPP at tel: 082-615566 or Borneo Highlands Resort at tel: 016-8860153 (Janetta Hazel), 016-8860791 (Michael Tanjong) or 016-8893155 (Mohamad Junaidi).

When asked on whether MPP will close all its recreation parks during the present hazy situation, Lo said that they are not closing any.

“At the moment, we will not close any of our recreational parks. There’s no need to close anything as we don’t want to create panic among the public,” Lo said, adding that when the time comes and the haze is affecting the health of the public, then they will.

Also present during the press conference were Organising Chairman of the Borneo Highlands Padawan Nature Challange 2015, Cr Lee Sin Fah, Assistant Organising Chairman Dilop Jina, MPP officers Freddy Sulay, BHR General Manager Mohamad Saufik Nair, BHR officers Bernard Tiong and MPP Public Relations Officer, Puan Faridah Ismawi.
