Lo lauds joint initiative in assisting poor pupils
KUCHING: Batu Kitang state assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said he was glad that the Haji Baki ParentTeacher Association (PTA) combined with the Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Pelajar Miskin.
Sarawak had taken the initiative to assist pupils of the lower income group with school bags, uniforms and other necessities.
Handing over the items yesterday to 34 pupils from the school, Lo said he was pleased to do his part as he donated RM3,000 to the school’s PTA for their future use to assist the less fortunate pupils.
“This type of good deed by the two organisations should be encouraged and emulated to help poorer
parents to cope up with the stress of starting a new school term for their children, ” Lo said, adding that he commended such act.
He added that he is also going to help the school with RM40,000 through the state government’s Rural Transformation Programe to redo all the electrical wiring. He said should there be any short-circuit, it was dangerous for the school’s mostly wooden buildings.
The school was to have a new block costing RM20 million but the project is not realised yet, he added. At the moment the school is using the IBS system, a temporary shelter for the pupils to study, Lo said and hoped the government will look into the issue of constructing a new building for the school.
