According to a press statement, the 15 companies were from the Kuching Division Car Repairer Association that had been offered lots measuring 0.57 acres to 0.6 acres at Kota Samarahan Extension Industrial Area, Phase 1 whereas applications from 23 more companies were still under consideration.
Prior to this, the car repair operators established their workshops on lands that were not of industrial status such as commercial land (5), agriculture land (5), industry (3) and housing development (2).
In view of this, the government is encouraging workshop operators to relocate their businesses to ideal industrial lands to avoid interference with neighbours and industrial areas.
Presently, 63 companies had lands approved for Kota Samarahan Extension Industrial Area which involved 88 plots totalling 155.46 acres.
Also present during the ceremony were Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Assistant Minister of Industrial Estate Development Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Ministry of Industrial Development permanent secretary Datu Liaw Soon Eng and Kuching Division Car Repairers Association chairman Bong Jiew Kit.
