Lo Khere Chiang : Padawan Fair to begin on 19 July
KUCHING: The month-long annual Padawan Fair
will begin from 19 July at the MJC Batu Kawah township.
This was announced by chairman of Padawan
Municipal Council, Lo Khere Chiang during a meeting at the council premises at
Kota Padawan near here yesterday.
Lo also disclosed that preparations for the
event will be handled by Embun Kiara Sdn Bhd.
“Every year we are seeing improvement to
the Padawan Fair including having better facilities. The Padawan Fair is
different from other fairs as it includes various programmes to attract more people to come,” he
said, adding that a bigger shelter will be set up for the public in case it
rains. And it would be good if it rains because it can provide a cooling effect
to the hot weather which is expected to hit the state from now until September.
“Besides food and beverages, many of the
programmes held during the Padawan Fair is free of charge. People are
encouraged to come, enjoy and support the fair as it is held by the council for
them.
After the meeting, packets of dates were
distributed to the Muslim staff at a surau in the building, sponsored by a councillor.
According to chairman of the surau committee,
Sabli bin Razak the distribution of items is held annually but the items differ
every year.
“For
instance, last year ‘bubur lambuk (rice porridge) was distributed while this
year it is dates,” he said.
Some
190 Muslims are working for Padawan Municipal Council including the councilors.
They each received a packet of dates after the asar prayers.
