MPP provides user-friendly library services

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will continue to provide library services to rural areas under its jurisdiction.

Its chairman Lo Khere Chiang said this initiative was in line with the vision and mission of MPP to encourage the habit and interest of reading among members of the community.

“It is MPP’s wish to provide this service to the community here, and we will endeavour from time to time to ensure that members of the community can be helped through formal and informal education programmes as well as practise the habit of lifelong learning,” Lo said.

He made this call during the opening of Kampung Garung Rural Library which was officiated by Assistant Minister of Public Health and Bengoh assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

Lo also said that MPP was in the process of planning to build rural libraries in Kampung Chupak and Kampung Sibakar.

Currently three rural libraries, namely in Kampung Sungai Maong, Kampung Telaga Air and Kampung Garung worth RM124,000 are in operation.

“MPP provides the most rural library service in the state, with 34 rural libraries and two public libraries,” Lo said.

Among MPP’s visions in providing the libraries are to give user-friendly services and provide more scholarly materials to create an informative and literate community and to raise the quality of the library with well-arranged library materials.

Additionally, it ensures that books found in the library keep abreast with the needs of all education and social levels.
