Village receives RM11,000 in community funds

KUCHING: Kampung Burung Lilin received a total of RM11,000 in community allocations during a Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri held on Sunday (Apr 20), attended by prominent state leaders.

The festive gathering was jointly organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), the Masjid Bakti Nur Islam Committee, and the PBB N14 Kampung Burung Lilin Branch. It brought together residents and invited guests for an evening of celebration and strengthened community ties.

Among the attendees were Datuk Ahmad Datuk Seri Ibrahim, Head of the PBB N14 Batu Kawa Branch, and Datuk Ir Lo Khere Chiang, Batu Kitang assemblyman. Both leaders, in their speeches, underscored the importance of unity, development, and the welfare of the local community.

Ahmad reminded villagers to preserve national harmony and steer clear of racial sentiments. He also announced an allocation of RM5,000 to the JKKK Kampung Burung Lilin in support of grassroots initiatives.

Meanwhile, Lo highlighted ongoing and upcoming development efforts in the area, including the upgrading of the drainage system in front of Masjid Bakti Nur Islam. He expressed hope that such improvements would enhance the village’s landscape and environment.

He also pledged RM3,000 to the JKKK and an additional RM3,000 to the mosque committee.

In his welcoming remarks, village chief Poniman Dahlan expressed gratitude to the Sarawak government for its continuous support. He also encouraged villagers to continue backing both leaders, who represent Kampung Burung Lilin at the state level.

The event featured various highlights, including the distribution of ‘duit raya’ (festive monetary gift) to children under 12, contributions to the ‘asnaf’ (needy folk), a lucky draw, and best-dressed contests for adults and children alike.

Also present were Penghulu Sabtuyah Yusuf, Penghulu Sariee, and Chairman of Masjid Bakti Nur Islam, Yaakub.
