Apply homestay licence with Motac, Lo tells interested Kpg Sapit folk
KUCHING (Feb 4): Kampung Sapit folk wanting to apply for homestay licences can do so by applying with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac), said Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang.
He said this when met by the reporters at the MPP Chinese New Year open house Friday, to verify claims that homestay licences come under the local councils.
“For those in Kampung Sapit wanting to have their home being rented out as homestays, the issuance of licence comes under the purview of the (federal) ministry.
“One of our roles (in MPP) is to issue business licence for food and beverage. If homestays in Kampung Sapit want to open a food and beverage outlet in their homestays, the licence can be issued by us (MPP).
“It is not a problem with us but those who want to open a business must register their company since it involves the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), because they need to pay tax,” he said.
Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, said there is such a thing called village shop licence.
“Take for example, Kpg Haji Baki, Kpg Bumbok, Kpng Tematu and many other villages within MPP have village shops complete with licences. They can sell food and drinks, it’s not a problem, and Kampung Sapit is no different ,” he said.
Kampung Sapit is located in Puncak Borneo about two hours drive from the city centre. It is located about 1,000 metres above sea level.
The location is ideal for holiday lovers and campers, with beautiful panorama from ‘above the clouds’.
