KUCHING (May 16): Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) assistant publicity and information secretary Lo Khere Chiang expects a smooth sailing SUPP triennial general meeting (TGM) which is scheduled for May 21-22 at the SUPP headquarters here.

“I don’t foresee any problems in our upcoming triennial general meeting and party elections,” he said when asked to comment on the party upcoming TGM during a health screening activity at a basketball court at Arang Road here.

Lo, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman, believed that all the delegates present during the TGM will continue to stand behind and support party president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian to continue leading the party.

“I am confident that within the party SUPP, we are all very united and we will support our party president. We will think of the party first and not for ourselves,” he said.

Lo added that even if there are contests for the party’s posts during the TGM, it would be for the benefit of the party.

He said it is pertinent for party members to be united so that it could convince the public to support the administration of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition to bring the state to greater heights.

“If we want to talk about gaining back Sarawak rights and taking back our resources, we must put Sarawak in a strong political position within Malaysia.”

Thus, Lo said SUPP, as well as other component parties of GPS, must stay united in support of the strong GPS coalition.

Besides SUPP, the other component parties in GPS are Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Lo also hoped GPS would mimic its electoral success in the 12th Sarawak state election in the coming parliamentary general election.
