KUCHING: The RM7-million project to construct new buildings blocks at SJK Chung Hua No 2 here is expected to be completed end of this year, says chairman of the management committee of Kuching Chung Hua Primary Schools No 1 to 6, Wong Tiong Hook.
According to Wong, the construction of the new building blocks to accommodate the increasing number of students is being accelerated despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The student population will increase next year and we anticipate the student population to reach 1,600 from the current 1,300 in five to six years,” he said after receiving a mock cheque of RM50,000 issued by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP)  from Minister of Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“The amount was something we promised long ago, so now we are presenting them the money for the project,” said Dr Sim briefly after the presentation.
Wong informed that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was supposed to perform earth-breaking for the project but it was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Wong thanked members of the public for contribution to the building project which will also house computer room and a library.
Among those present were Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and political secretary to the chief minister Tan Kai.
