Fewer public complaints on crime now, says Lo

KUCHING: There have been fewer public complaints on crime activities in the Padawan district since Supt Aidil Bolhasssan was appointed as the district police chief.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said this to reporters after he officiated at a safety programme with villagers of Kpg Haji Baki at Darul Ehsan Mosque near here, yesterday.
“We have a Whatsapp group (WAG) with him (Aidil) and the MPP councillors and also several crime-watch groups with the public in some areas.
“And if there is any suspicious activity or person, members of the WAGs can then relay their messages to notify others,” he said.
Lo also reminded the villagers that the government is serious in tackling crime activities which seem to be on the rise.
“The participation of the entire community is crucial in crime prevention and not just the authorities concerned.
“We need the community’s help in combating crime so that our nation is respected internationally for having the lowest crime rate,” he told the villagers.

He added that the good neighbourhood spirit should be strengthened to prevent crime activities.
“We must become a network in the local community to monitor activities in the neighborhood and report suspicious activities to the police.
“Let us remove the attitude of indifference in the neighborhood in order to reduce crimes and to create safer neighborhoods. The agenda to control and eradicate crime requires a unified and earnest effort from all parties as each has their own roles and responsibilities in the fight against crime.
“We also need to instill a sense of community in each individual as the benefit that comes from community living includes forming a caring society.
“This will indirectly create a level of trust among the communities and also makes it easier to unite and work together to prevent and eradicate crime activities,” Lo said.
The programme was jointly organised by Kampung Haji Baki Development and Safety Committee (JKKK), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Darul Ehsan Mosque and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
Also present were Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhasssan, Aidil’s deputy DSP Merbin Lisa, Kota Sentosa police station chief Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Ali and organising chairperson, Penghulu Sabtuyah Mohd Yusuf.
