KUCHING: Associations such as the Moral Uplifting Association are a boon to society, especially for the younger generation for helping to teach good societal values.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said this when officiating at the opening ceremony of the Ming Jin Sean Kor Moral Uplifting Association office, at Jalan Pending here yesterday.
“We live in a digital age but it is not certain that children would learn good values from smartphones or the Internet.
“Therefore, I am thankful for this association as they play a role in teaching good values to children, who are the future,” Sim said.
He also commended Moral Uplifting Associations all over Sarawak for accepting everyone regardless of race or creed.
“They really exemplify the harmony that is associated with Sarawak, as they welcome everyone to join them. To them, it doesn’t matter which religion or race you belong to, as they will welcome you,” Sim added.
Also present at the ceremony were Ming Jin Sean Kor Moral Uplifting Association chairperson Foo Phik Ling, Che Quan Khor Moral Uplifting Society Bintulu president Chia Su Jin, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.
