Practise recycling to protect environment’
KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has reminded Sarawakians to practise recycling and take care of the environment as this can help the Sarawak government save money.
This is because dump sites will cost the government RM10 million to rehabilitate.
“If we want to think about taking care of Sarawak, we must also keep it clean. It starts from the people and their habits as keeping Sarawak clean is also a sign of showing love for Sarawak,” he said at the launch of tHe Spring Shopping Mall’s ‘Operation Recycle’ campaign here yesterday.
Dr Sim also disclosed that waste management companies like Trienekens are charging RM250 per tonne to collect rubbish across the city, and it would help the government a lot if Sarawakians start to practise recycling more actively from now on.
Thus, he said it is about time Sarawakians realise the importance of recycling and keeping the environment clean as this would benefit all.
Meanwhile at the same event, Dr Sim thanked all those who took the initiative to promote recycling and come up with innovative ways to recycle waste like what tHe Spring Shopping Mall is doing, which is introducing a vending machine that helps shoppers recycle plastic bottles and aluminium cans.
“Do not underestimate the action of recycling one plastic bottle, as even a small effort will contribute to a better tomorrow for our future generation and a cleaner environment,” he said.
