KUCHING: Eight Sarawakian Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members and six ex-officio members including a staff member to PAC, are among the delegates attending the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies Fifth Annual Public Accounts Committee Symposium at the Strand Palace Hotel in London, which concludes today.
The Sarawakian PAC delegation, led by its chairman Aidel Lariwoo, comprises Mohd Chee Kadir, Chiew Chiu Sing, Datuk Ranum Mina, Yussibnosh Balo, Lo Khere Chiang, See Chee How and Alexander Vincent.
Also in the delegation are Sarawak PAC secretary Semawi Mohamad, ex-officio members Datu Jumastapha Lamat, Toiayah Tioh, Grace Hii Hui Hing and Antonio Kahti Galis. The chairman of the Sabah PAC Ahmad Bujang also attends the symposium.
The delegates from Sarawak and Sabah are joining their counterparts from Cayman Islands, Solomon Islands, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Bangladesh and Tonga at the event, which highlights various topics.
Yesterday, the participants discussed ‘PAC Best Practices: Remit, Scope and Range’, ‘Analysing Common Obstacles to Prudent Spending and Why They Happen’, ‘Respond, Responsibilities for the PAC Chairperson in the PAC’, and ‘How to Identify Misuse of Public Money – Case Study and Resolution.
Today, the delegates would discuss ‘Identifying and Overcome Challenges Whilst Managing An Inquiry’, ‘Making the Accountability Concept Operation for Public Finance’, ‘Working With Other Actors in a Challenging Environment’, ‘Policy of Parliament and Other Public Actors’ and ‘Measuring The Impact of PAC’. They are also expected to visit the UK Parliament and observe the PAC in action, apart from visiting the National Archives.
