KUCHING: The popular annual Padawan Fair is back with lively night entertainment at Batu Kawah New Township from June 20 until July 19, open from 6pm to 11.30pm.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will be organising it for the 17th year running, with this year’s fair again aiming to foster closer ties between the council and residents living under the jurisdiction of MPP as well as to encourage participation from local communities in council activities.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the fair is expected to be officiated by Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh on June 20 at 7.30pm.

“Admission to the Padawan Fair is free and the public is cordially welcome to visit the food fair, trade fair and fun fair where they can join in the merriment with their family and friends while also be entertained by nightly stage entertainment,” he said at a press conference held at MPP office yesterday.

According to him, the council is expecting around 40 food stalls selling an assortment of local delicacies to be set up at the food fair while another 40 trade stalls promoting products from automotive to household equipment will be showcased at the trade fair.

Meanwhile, Padawan Fair project manager KL Lim from Embun Kiara (S) Sdn Bhd said visitors can expect to enjoy the line-up of entertainment programmes with performances not only by local singers but also artistes from Kuala Lumpur.

“The fair will be slightly different this year as we will be introducing more local and traditional food at the food fair from the various communities in Sarawak as part of our efforts to create more awareness about Padawan and its communities,” he noted.

“Apart from that, we have also improved a lot on facilities at the fair such as the entertainment stage and lighting and sound system.”

For those who are interested in participating in the food or trade fair, they are advised to contact Embun Kiara at 019-8871269.
