KUCHING: Newly appointed councillors of Padawan Municipal Council
(MPP) have been urged to work as a team to address and resolve the
people’s problems and complaints.
“I hope the newly appointed councillors will carry out their duties with
dedication, sincerity and integrity to serve the community,” said MPP
Chairman Lo Khere Chiang after the swearing-in ceremony for MPP
councillors at the MPP office here yesterday.
“With many newly appointed councillors representing professional bodies
and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), I am sure we can all work
together to come out with more positive ideas to serve the people in
this area better,” he said.
Lo also thanked the ex-councilors who were not reappointed this term for
their past contribution and services.
The newly councillors appointed were: Wadel Boyod, Chai Sheau Lin, Lee
Sin Fah, Jong Nyong Khoon, Richard Kian Hua Mudeh, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin,
Fong Jiew Ted, Ahkim Sarok Senyau, Lai Chien Wei, Li Tze Min, Kon Thiam
Sen, Chai Kueh Khiun, Kamaruddin Su’aut, Zaiedi Suhaili, Munded Banat,
Isabell Julau Mejat, Michael Chin Apau, Hillary Giang Ngelambong, Edward
Stephen Kurik, Sehat Sanub, Vincent Richard Ridos, Sebastian Sakol
Senyau, Albert Tanon, Udin Ali, Boon Joon Hin, Yeo Eng Kuang, Allen Hii
Leh Mee, Rabian Kipli, Zainudin Morshidi and Damen Rijek @ Damien.
The councillors were sworn-in before the chairman, witnessed by Local
Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh,
Assistant Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Permanent
secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development
Datuk Penguang Manggil and MPP Secretary Michael Saweng.
Out of the 31 appointed councillors, 12 were from Sarawak United
People’s Party (SUPP), nine from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB),
three from Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) three from Parti
Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and four from NGOs.
Meanwhile, /New Sarawak Tribune/ managed to interview some of the newly
appointed councillors for their comments.
Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said as a SUPP Youth leader, he would be able to
help bridge the gap between the government and the people.
“It is good that the state government can recognise the services that
SUPP can contribute towards the public,” he said, adding that the post
of councillor gives him an additional platform to serve the community.
Sebastian Sakoi Senyau remarked that as an MPP councillor, he will be
able to establish better relationship between PBB and the people.
“We can work closely with the people to resolve any issues and we will
be taking better care of the community,” he added.
Damen Rijek who is also a PBB member said he will put more effort to
work together with the other councilors to serve the people.
“
As PBB members, we will cooperate with the other MPP councillors to
serve the people in the area and become the bridge to connect the people
with the government,” he said.
