KUCHING: More than 2,000 residents of the housing area in Mile 9, Taman Greenwood, will receive more benefits and security guarantees through the establishment of a new Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT).
The establishment of the KRT plays an important role in improving security, maintaining public facilities and cleanliness, fostering harmony, and strengthening the relationship between residents in the surrounding 1,000 to 2,000 housing units.
According to Batu Kitang assemblyman, Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, the KRT will also work closely with the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), government agencies and elected representatives to enhance the development and maintenance of the local area.
“Greenwood Park is located within the MPKS administrative boundary, so it is very important for us to work together in managing this park.
“This includes maintaining infrastructure such as roads, drains, and public facilities better,” he said at a press conference after attending the Greenwood Park KRT meeting here on Wednesday.
He also encouraged more residents to join the WhatsApp group that will be formed to further improve services and maintenance of the area.
“With more volunteers joining, this KRT will be stronger and more proactive in improving the neighbourhood for benefit of all,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Greenwood Park KRT Chairman, Gerrald Gilles, said this KRT covers several housing areas around Mile 9, including Taman Greenwood, Taman Indah Jaya, Taman Princess, Taman Green Hill, Taman Alamanda, as well as Prima Oxford housing and several flat blocks.
“With an estimated 2,000 residents, this KRT aims to conduct regular safety patrols, including assisting agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department and others in issues of security, public health, and so on.
“In addition, we will also focus on complaints from residents regarding problems such as damaged roads, non-functioning streetlights, clogged drains, and garbage disposal issues,” he explained.
He added that active participation from residents in the programmes organised is also highly encouraged, especially involving women and youth, because it is the key to the success of the KRT in creating a safer and more harmonious environment.
“We will ensure that every need and problem that arises can be resolved through cooperation between residents and the authorities,” he stressed, hoping that more residents will join the initiative.
The establishment of this KRT is an important initial step in creating a more competitive and caring society, which will then grow in line with efforts to improve the safety and well-being of residents.
