KUCHING: The Padawan police have been working hard in its fight against the drug menace, arresting 32 offenders and seizing various drugs throughout last year.
Its deputy chief DSP Merbin Lisa said five of the offenders were nabbed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
“Four more offenders were caught under Section 39A of the same Act, and the remaining 23 offenders under Section 39A(1) of the same Act and also under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985,” he told a press conference after leading a monthly parade yesterday.
On the type of drugs seized, Merbin said cannabis recorded the highest seizure at 360.73 grammes, followed by Syabu (288.13 grammes) and Erimin 5 (33 pills).
“The total value of drugs seized is around RM11,280. Syabu had the highest value at RM5,760, followed by cannabis (RM3,600), and Erimin 5 (RM1,320).
“We will continue to be firm in combating the drug offence in areas within our jurisdiction,” he added.
Merbin also said that the crime index in Padawan registered a drop last year compared to the year before, attributing it to ongoing operations and the successful implementation of several crime prevention approaches.
