KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) members are urged to work together to take back the Stampin seat in the upcoming general election.
Its Batu Kitang branch chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, said the loss of the seat five years ago along with its standing MP, the Deputy Works Minister, was a big loss to the party.
He thus urged party members to learn from the defeat and work harder to win back the seat.
“Be fully committed, dedicated and prepared for the upcoming election so that we can win back the (Stampin) seat. The election is said to be held in March or April next year and this means it will be a busy time for us.
“Regardless of who the candidate fielded for the seat is, we must give our full support to win back the seat,” he said at ‘SUPP Batu Kitang Wild Wild West Night’ on Friday.
Organising chairperson Cr Shirley Pui said that the event was held to bring all branch members together to celebrate their achievements and successes in 2017 and to get to know one another better.
She said the branch was only formed a year ago and is slowly improving itself in all aspects.
“With the recent election of new office bearers and the increase in membership, we will strive to perform better. We shall work harder to strengthen our performance in helping society and developing the constituency.”
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap and Temenggong Datuk Tan Joo Phoi were among those present at the event.
